Soothe Healthcare conducted a Women’s Health & Hygiene Awareness session – on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in Panawadi village (45km from Pune) in association with Rotary Club of Pune NIBM (National Institute of Bank Management).
65 women and girls attended the program along with Mrs Magar, the sarpanch of the village and Mrs. Sushma Bhise, an ASHA worker designated to Panawadi village.
During the session, we realised that awareness on menstrual hygiene was non-existent. Inspite of the village being located only a short distance away from Pune, a growing metropolis, some of the myths we had to address were traditional and rooted in age-old practices. Including, believing that women were dirty and impure while they were mestruating, they could not enter the kitchen or be allowed to do anything ‘important’ during those days and more. These were tackled with care and patience by our Community Programs Associate, Mrs. Ruchira Kondaskar.
At the end of the session, Soothe Healthcare’s Paree sanitary pads were distributed to the participants along with Paree Menstrual Education Guides.
