115 participants, girl students and teachers alike, attended sessions on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) at the Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray High School in Pune on April 9, 2014.
Soothe Healtcare’s Community Program team organised MHM sessions in the school post their discussions with the principal. Her main concerns were
(i) Majority of the girls in her school used cloth as a substitute to sanitary pads.
(ii) The few students who used sanitary pads were not aware of proper disposal methods which had led to unhygienic situations in the school washrooms.
The interactive awareness sessions covered topics ranging from menstrual cycle in women to myths surrounding menstruation, maintenance of hygiene and its impact on women’s health.
Soothe Healthcare’s Paree Menstrual Education Guides were given to the participants to take home the learnings from the session. Paree sanitary pads were also distributed to the participants.
